Overview

Mobile UX for local cricket team creation, onboarding and post-tournament performance tracking.

Problem statement

Organisers were spending hours forming cricket teams over WhatsApp groups and spreadsheets — juggling player invites, tracking who'd confirmed, and managing both registered and unregistered players with no purpose-built tool for it.

Research & discovery

Found that many potential team members — especially casual or first-time players — weren't registered users, so an all-or-nothing signup flow would exclude a large share of real players.

Identified speed as the top priority for organisers, since the existing WhatsApp-and-spreadsheet process could take 20+ minutes to form a single team.

Identified trust as a second core need — players wanted transparent tournament rules and verified profiles before committing to a team.

Design decisions

Problem

Team creation over WhatsApp and spreadsheets could take 20+ minutes and excluded unregistered players.

Solution

Designed a hybrid player-addition flow — registered users added via search/import, unregistered players added via phone number and an SMS link — cutting team-creation time from 20+ minutes to under 5.

Problem

Inviting each player individually was still too slow for larger tournaments.

Solution

Added QR-code-based team joining so a captain could onboard an entire squad in a few taps instead of sending individual invites.

Problem

Organisers and players had no way to track performance once a tournament ended.

Solution

Designed post-tournament performance tracking views so captains and players could see results without going back to spreadsheets.
